The Inner Makings Of Man (Part 1)

Read: Genesis 1:26, 2:7

One revelation that has proven very helpful in the progress of my Christian walk and understanding of myself is revealed in todays scriptures. In Genesis 1:26 we see the Lord creating man in His own image and likeness. This means many things, but one of the major similarities mankind shares with Our God is we are made up of three parts. The human is made up of a spirit, soul, and body; each of these parts have their own functions, attributes, and roles in the human existence. Genesis 2:7 sheds a deeper light on the creation and roles of these parts of our being. Genesis 2:7 states that after forming man from the dust of the ground, the Lord breathed the breath of life into the nostrils of the man and he became a living soul. The first thing we should point out is that our bodies are formed from the dust of the ground that's why after death we process back into dust, the breath of life God breathed into the mans nostrils became his spirit; and here we see it was the combining of Gods breath of life into the man formed from dust that produced the living soul. It's so vital we understand our makeup and inner workings for in it we may understand our temptations and even better make the separation between which one we are operating with at any given time. The spirit is our innermost being, this is the part of us that connects us to the spiritual realm. It is through this part that we can communicate and hear from God, have visions, prophecy and many other spiritual practices. This part of us usually desires to follow the Lord and His ways if we are reborn. The body is our outer shell, it connects us to the physical world. It's through our body we interact with this physical realm. The body usually wants to follow whatever it feels at the time, fulfilling any craving, or desire. The soul is in between the body and the spirit, it is here that our mind, will, personality, and emotions are. Its in our soul that the Lord has placed our free-will. In our soul we decide whether we would like to submit to our spirit and follow its leading which is usually the closest to what the Lord desires or to obey the flesh which many times is the opposite. Life is a perfect test, with every decision we choose to obey one or the other, our spirit or our body. God desires that we be a spiritual people and allow ourselves to be governed and led by our spirit, but the devil wants us to be caught in the flesh and allow our lives to be ruled by our flesh and whatever it desires. Our temptation usually is attached to the body but usually starts in the soul. When Satan wants you to give in to temptation he always starts with your mind which is your soul, he knows if he can get you to submit your soul to what he desires he can get you to carry it out in the body, and choose the flesh over the spirit. The soul is so important because it's here that we make up our mind to fulfill the desires of the flesh or the desires of the spirit. Once we give our life to the Lord we receive a new spirit, joined with Christ, but our soul and body usually remain unchanged and in need of cleansing and reprogramming. This can only be done through the power of God. It's so important that we lean in Him and not our own strength to carry out this process. It's through this process that we begin to see our spiritual freedom manifest in the natural as the Lord goes past freeing our spirit and begins freeing our soul and body. I challenge you to lay five things before the Lord you want complete freedom from, it can be anything from a sin to an insecurity but lay it at His throne and ask Him to free you.

Heavenly Father, your word says I was made in your image, I pray you continue molding me into the likeness of your Son. I desire to be what you've called me to be but I pray that you empower and strengthen me to walk the path you've laid before me. I pray you give me a better understanding of the separation between my spirit, soul, and body. Help me to be better lead by my spirit over my body. Holy Spirit please empower me and direct my steps. Free me to walk in freedom in such a way others will desire a relationship with you through my experience. Help me to understand spiritual warfare and the way the spiritual realm works. Thank you Lord Jesus for your sacrifice on the cross, I give you my life and pray you will cleanse my sins and direct my paths. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
